Surface Preparation

Surfaces to which the material will be applied must be thoroughly cleaned from dust grease or any contamination that could affect the adhesion of the material. Complete a second cleaning using mild soap and water to ensure the window is completely clean. Finally, rinse with water only and thoroughly dry the surface.

Using a Dry Application Method

Remember, when installing material on the inside of a window, the design side is applied facing the glass. We only recommend a dry application using a plastic applicator with a low friction sleeve. Avoid touching the adhesive, especially at the edges and corners and cut away the top 25 to 50 millimetres of the liner and begin application of the material on the window.

Start at the top using a core to maintain tension and remove the liner at a slow, steady pace as you work down, taking care not to stretch the graphic. Cut the graphic back from the edge of the window by one to three millimeters to ensure reliable edge adhesion.

Completion

Complete a final squeegee taking particular care with the edges and when you look at the film you should be able to see through the panel. The graphic should not be washed within 24 hours of application to allow the adhesive to reach a sufficient strength.

Joins

Let’s take a look at joins: firstly be sure to use a butt join. Tape the first panel onto the glass. Position the second panel to overlap and align the design then fix it in place.

Next, apply tape along the overlap and mark with horizontal lines then cut down the center of the tape making sure not to cut through the panels. Then, remove the positional tape and apply the first panel.

Position the second panel aligning horizontal markers and fix in place then apply the top 25 to 50 millimeters of this panel. Next, remove all the tape and apply the remainder of the second panel, cutting down the center of the overlap through both layers of material taking care not to scratch the glass and remove the trimmed excess material to form a clean butt join.

In summary:

• Clean your surface thoroughly and use a dry application method
• Remove the liner with care
• Avoid touching the adhesive
• Don’t wash the graphics for 24 hours

Using a Dry Application Method

We only recommend a dry application using a plastic applicator with a low friction sleeve. Avoid touching the adhesive especially at the edges and corners and cut away the top 25 to 50 millimeters of the liner. Begin application of the material on the window starting at the top.

If your graphics are unlaminated, you can use a core to maintain tension otherwise just squeegee down evenly handling the graphic with care and ensuring that no bubbles are trapped. Cut the graphic back from the edge of the window by one to three millimeters to ensure reliable edge adhesion.

Completion

Complete a final squeegee taking particular care with the edges. The graphic should not be washed within 24 hours of application to allow the adhesive to reach a sufficient strength.

Window Film Removal is quick and easy with Contra Vision®.

Start in a top corner and use a knife to pick the edge until enough material is exposed to allow you to grip the material. Pull back steadily maintaining an even tension and once the material is removed, clean the window.

It is important to note that we do not recommend cleaning Contra Vision® perforated window films within 24 hours after application. To keep your Contra Vision perforated window film clean and looking its best, follow this cleaning method:

Cleaning guidance for perforated window films

• Mix a solution of mild soap and sufficient water to produce plenty of suds.
• Apply the solution to the face of the applied film using a cloth or a sponge taking care when cleaning the edges and corner as all adhesive window films more vulnerable to damage in these areas if not edge sealed. Use sufficient solution to soften and wash out debris from the holes. Particularly stubborn blockages can be removed with a soft bristled brush.
• Gently wipe the perforated film wetted surface to remove settled dirt. Be careful not to scratch the ink layer if printed and only use very light pressure to avoid smearing any adhesive that may be present around the edges of the perorations.
• When you’re satisfied that the dirt in the holes is softened, wash off the soap solution with plenty of clean, soap-free water, again using the soft bristled brush to ensure that softened dirt and soap is removed from the holes.
• You can carefully blot the rinsed film to remove excess water or use a soft rubber bladed squeegee – excess water remaining in the perforations will evaporate or you can carefully use a Vacuum Squeegee. We suggest a Karcher WV5, or similar which is widely available from DIY outlets and depots.

General Information and precautions

Take care if you are working at height. Refer to relevant health and safety measures. Wear suitable personal protection measures such as safety glasses and gloves.

Do not use solvents or solvent based preparations such as alcohols and ammonia. Avoid any abrasive cleaning materials to tools. Dispose of packaging considerately and check local statutes regarding the use of cleaning materials and disposal of contaminated water.

Incorrect cleaning may lead to premature failure of the applied material.

Contra Vision Non-Perforated Privacy Window Films including Frosted, Mirror and Reeded offer a trouble-free installation if you follow a few basic rules.

Important; Reeded films have a directional texture (the vertical “reeds”). If you rotate a panel 90° or 180°:

• The flutes will run in a different direction, changing the light‑diffusion and privacy effect.
• Adjacent panels will look mismatched, even if the pattern spacing is the same.
• When sunlight hits the glass, the rotated panel will reflect and refract differently, making the join very obvious.

When installing multiple panels next to one another always cut the same edge of the roll. Aim to ‘finish’ the previous flute to avoid changes in the pattern across the installation.
