Lighting Advice For Night Privacy

Most one-way vision films can only provide privacy during the daytime. At night the films become see-through if the inside is illuminated and blinds or curtains are needed. If night privacy is needed then Contra Vision offers one product which obscures the vision into buildings even if they are illuminated. Contra Vision® White 24/7 Concealed Vision™ is a translucent white perforated window film which provides some privacy 24/7, but careful consideration must be given to the back lighting to get the best results.

Contra Vision White 24/7 Concealed Vision achieves a degree of night privacy when light passes through the material and causes it to glow slightly, creating a distraction to the see-through. Ambient lighting from inside the building is enough to provide some illumination. This effect can be enhanced by removing point sources of light from directly behind the window and adding spot or flood lights from outside the field of vision. Even if the internal lighting is sub-optimal, night-time privacy will still be better than with conventional perforated window film.

Ideal situation

Ideal lighting conditions for White 24/7 Concealed Vision to deliver exceptional results. Directional lighting should be positioned beyond the line of sight through the applied window film from the inside and directed onto the reverse side. Other interior lighting should be switched off if the interior surfaces are light in color, but may be left on if the surfaces are dark or the directional light is sufficiently powerful.

Acceptable situation

Acceptable lighting conditions for White 24/7 Concealed Vision to deliver variable results in terms of privacy but a considerable improvement over conventional see-through window films. Directional lighting beyond the line of sight through the interior should be directed onto the reverse side of the film. If walls and other surfaces are light in color and other lighting can’t be extinguished, the product will offer less privacy than in ideal conditions.

Non-ideal situation

In situations where the environment behind White 24/7 Concealed Vision is lit with heavily diffused illumination sources that can’t be turned off and the walls and other visible surfaces are lightly colored, or if point and diffused light sources are visible through the film from the exterior, results will be less than perfect and other means of illumination should be explored.
