Why does artificial turf melt?

Artificial turf can melt when concentrated reflections from low E grade glass magnifies the sun’s rays.

Objects in the path of the rays such as artificial turf, plants, vinyl sidings and patio furniture may be subjected to temperatures well in excess of those from normal exposure to the sun resulting in scorching and melting.

Energy efficient glass with a low E coating is flexible, meaning that when the pressure between the panes of glass is different from the atmospheric pressure, the glass is designed to deflect.

When the glass deflects inward, this creates a concave reflective surface that concentrates the reflected beam of sunlight, resulting in the glass acting like a magnifying glass.

How to stop artificial turf from scorching whilst still maintaining the aesthetics of the window

By applying Contra Vision® ScorchProtect to the outside of the glass, it will defuse the intensity of the reflection by reducing the reflective area and damage that may occur to artificial grass, plants, vinyl sidings and patio furniture.

ScorchProtect maintains see-through from inside with minimal impact to the appearance of the window from the outside.
