Static can build up when PET liners and laminate films unwind or separate during laminating, particularly in dry environments. A simple and effective solution is to use grounded copper anti-static tinsel positioned near the laminator nip rollers and liner separation points.
For best performance:
- Use conductive copper-core anti-static tinsel
- Allow it to lightly touch the media or sit 2–3 mm above it
- Properly earth the tinsel to the laminator chassis or machine ground
- Position it where liners separate or the web path changes
- Maintain workshop humidity around 40–45% RH where possible
Grounding and positioning are critical — most static issues come from poor installation rather than the material itself.

Contra Vision one-way vision films are used to transform glass allowing you to view graphics on one side without blocking the view from the other side.

The film contains areas of printed graphic (a print pattern) as well as unprinted see-through areas covering up to 50% of the film. When looking at the side with graphics, the eye is drawn to the printed colours because they reflect more light than passes through the see-through areas.
The secret behind the one-way vision effect is ensuring the printed graphics are obscured or hidden from the other side of the glass. This is best achieved by having a black “backing” which covers exactly all the printed areas on the film without blocking the see-through (unprinted) areas. When looking through the reverse side of the film, the view coming through the film is dominant because the black layer absorbs light and is less apparent to the eye.

Yes — Contra Vision perforated window films do provide daytime privacy but lighting is a big factor in how it works. You can find information about lighting considerations here.
Daytime privacy works only when the outside is brighter than the inside. When it becomes darker outside (e.g. at night with indoor lights on), the privacy effect is reduced or lost, and people may see in.
All one-way vision products are reliant on there being more light on the outside than inside. Therefore these products are not ideal for night-time and should be used in conjunction with curtains or blinds where possible. If a combination of one-way vision and night-time privacy is required, you should try Contra Vision® MicroPerforated Translucent films – to achieve night-time privacy these products are illuminated from the light inside the building at night and the positioning of the light is important.
The objective is to have as much light as possible shining onto the window film from the inside. The window film is translucent and will glow slightly when light passes through it, which helps to obscure the view through the window. Ideally the light sources should not be directly behind the window to maximize the effect – e.g. light bulbs should be covered with shades to prevent point sources of light from being outside the field of vision. Night-time privacy is improved by shining spot or flood lights from the side or below the window – see image below.
Lighting is the key factor that determines how much privacy Contra Vision films provide.
Daytime (outside brighter):
During the day, the brighter exterior and the way light reflects off the outside surface make that side appear more solid. This brightness and reflection difference creates the one?way vision effect, allowing people inside to see out while reducing visibility from the outside.
Night-time (inside brighter):
When indoor lights are on and it’s dark outside, the privacy effect reduces or disappears. People outside can see in, and blinds or curtains are required.
Special cases:
Some films (e.g. MicroPerforated Translucent) may offer limited privacy at night, but performance still depends on interior lighting levels.

Contra Vision® window films are not recommended for use on glass with coatings such as anti-reflective, self-cleaning and scratch resistance, which could affect the adhesion of the material and may be damaged during removal.
Contra Vision films can be installed by a competent DIYer, as long as you take care with preparation and follow the recommended application steps.
A professional installer isn’t essential, although we do recommend this as they are better for large panels, precise alignment, or commercial jobs. For most home or small projects, a careful DIY approach would be sufficient.
Depending on the film this can differ, but usually cleaning materials, a sharp cutting cut, scissors and squeegee is enough.

This will vary by product and installation area. Please refer to installation guides but as a rough estimate taking into account cleaning, measuring, cutting etc, one straight forward window pane at floor level can take as little as 5 – 10 minutes.
Please note however that we also recommend the area you are applying the film has been prepared fully before installation.
Contra Vision films can be removed easily by lifting a corner and peeling back slowly at a low angle. Most adhesives come away clean, and any residue can be washed off with mild soapy water—no harsh chemicals required.

The durability of Contra Vision products varies and ranges from 3 years+ to 10 years.
Durability for each product will be specified in the technical data sheets available for each product.
The durability stated in our technical data sheets is for unprinted and untreated material correctly applied to an inert, vertical substrate, subject to Mid-European weathering conditions.
Incorrect application methods, inadequate window cleaning and preparation and incompatible window treatments may reduce the expected lifetime of the applied material. Mechanically sustained damage, chemical damage and UV-degradation to material may also reduce expected durability. Perforated window films can be especially vulnerable to damage along the edges and corners, which may lead to premature failure.

A common question we get asked is “does privacy window film work at night?” Most one-way window films including perforated privacy window films only provide privacy during the daytime. These films are opaque and as lighting levels change throughout the day privacy is often lost when lighting inside the building is brighter than the outside.
Our MicroPerforated Translucent film features a translucent white facefilm. As well as providing privacy during the day the film achieves a degree of night-time privacy if suitable internal lighting is used. Please note curtains or blinds will still be required to maintain full privacy. Even if the internal lighting is sub-optimal, night-time privacy will still be better than conventional one-way perforated privacy window film.
Additional factors that can affect the performance of the privacy window film include the angle of oncoming light and the intensity of artificial light sources inside the room. For optimal performance, avoid placing bright, direct light sources close to the windows.
There are not products specifically designed for night-time.
Unfortunately, whilst most of Contra Vision films can offer a level of privacy at night, it is highly dependant on the environment it is placed.
With the right lighting conditions they can be used to effectively block viewing in, whilst with the incorrect conditions they can have little to no effect.
Interior lighting plays a major role in how Contra Vision films perform—both in terms of privacy and graphic visibility. Here’s how it works:
1. It reduces privacy when the inside is brighter
Contra Vision films rely on the outside being brighter than the inside to create the one-way vision effect.
If interior lighting is brighter than the exterior, especially at night, the graphic becomes less dominant and people outside may see in. This is because see-through graphics are only effective when there is more light on the outside than the inside.
2. It can cause “burn-through” at night
When the interior is lit and the exterior is dark, the printed areas no longer disguise the perforations effectively. This results in burn-through, where the graphic appears washed out or disappears entirely.
3. Correctly placed lighting can improve night-time privacy (specific products only)
For products like MicroPerforated Translucent Privacy Film, interior lighting can help maintain partial night-time privacy—but only if:
Light is directed onto the window,
Lighting is placed out of the line of sight from passers-by,
Bright direct light sources near the window are avoided.
Even then, curtains or blinds are still needed for full privacy.
Contra Vision perforated window films are adhesive-coated calendered PVC, presented on a paper-based, silicone coated liner. The PVC complies with European REACH standards, so does not contain the undesirable substances often found in other PVC products.
Our understanding is that the silicone-coated paper and PVC elements of Contra Vision perforated products cannot practically be recycled. However, energy used in the manufacturing of the products can be recovered through appropriate incineration (WtE). We are researching ways of recycling our products.
Yes — Contra Vision films do block UV light, but the level of protection depends on the specific product.
Contra Vision’s materials include UV-resistant layers, which help reduce UV exposure through the glass. Privacy window films in general are engineered to intercept and absorb UV radiation, protecting interiors from fading and reducing UV-related wear.

Yes, all Contra Vision Privacy Window Films block and reflect sunlight, offering a reduction in solar heat, UV and glare. The reduction depends on the product. As an example, a 30% perforated film will cover 70% of the window area, this gives up to 70% reduction of UV light and glare, and up to 60% reduction of solar heat.
Contra Vision perforated window film is available at different levels of transparency, measured by the percentage of the total area that is represented by the perforated holes. As an example, Contra Vision 30% transparency white on black perforated window film comprises of 30% holes and 70% solid material. Sunlight is blocked by the solid material, so 30% transparency material blocks 70% of solar radiation so giving a 70% reduction in UV light and glare.

Printers requiring unprinted Contra Vision material can buy from our network of distributors. If you require printed Contra Vision material, we suggest you buy direct from a printer, or tell your regular supplier of printed material that you require Contra Vision material.
Usually our films are supplied on a roll at 760mm (30″), 1220mm (48″), 1370mm (54″) or 1520mm (60″) wide. If you are a dealer or installer then our distributors may be able to quote you for cutting down the products into sheets.
A cloudy or hazy appearance right after installing Contra Vision film is normal but is only temporary. This happens because small amounts of moisture become trapped between the film and the glass during application. As the film cures, this moisture slowly evaporates, and the cloudiness clears on its own.
The film should not be cleaned for at least 24 hours, as the adhesive is still settling and moisture is still dissipating.

Graphics can appear darker than anticipated because of how perforated (see-through) films balance printed areas with open holes. Up to 50% of the film is unprinted, meaning less total surface is reflecting light toward the viewer. As a result, the printed image reflects less light overall, making colours appear less bright and therefore darker than the same design printed on a solid surface.
In addition, lighting plays a major role. When viewing from the outside, the eye is naturally drawn to the printed areas because they reflect more light than the see-through areas, but the overall brightness still depends on how much light is hitting the graphic. Lower exterior lighting makes the image appear darker, while stronger light makes it appear more vibrant.
Typical applications of Contra Vision® Perforated Window Films do not require laminating. Consider using Contra Vision optically clear overlaminate CL50CY in situations where through-vision is essential when raining or where damage to the applied graphic might otherwise result. We also recommend the use of edge sealing tape (ES CL50CY) for all vehicle graphics. All vinyl should be cut back to finish on the glass with no overlapping over seals or the edge of the glass. During testing, we found that print settings can significantly affect over lamination adhesion. In particular, disabling the Overcoat option on the printer improved bonding performance.
It’s also important to note that when using the print profile, the “Optimise for Lamination” setting may be turned off by default when downloaded. Enabling this feature (or ensuring overcoat behaviour is correctly configured) can help achieve better adhesion between the printed surface and the overlaminate.
The streaks are caused by the laminate being pressed into the perforation holes during application. This happens when too much pressure is applied with the squeegee, creating visible distortion lines. The good news is that these streaks fade over time as the cast laminate recovers from stretching, this process may take a few days. To help prevent this, use gentle, even pressure and place a piece of waste liner (silicone side up) between the squeegee and the film to protect the surface. Avoid using heat.
