Seasonal Window Graphic installation at Johnsons Printers Nantwich

With the festive season rapidly approaching, UK-based Johnsons Printers sought to create an eye-catching holiday display for their Nantwich location. Their print shop is based in Nantwich town centre on a main road, they get a huge amount of traffic so there is plenty of opportunity to catch the eye of the locals as they pass. Their goal was to design a window installation that would resonate with the local community while showcasing their expertise in printing and design.

The Challenge

Johnsons wanted bold seasonal window graphics which would cover the entirety of their print shop windows for maximum visual impact. They also wanted to use a product that wouldn’t require them to sacrifice natural light for the comfortability of employees inside the print shop. Natural light can also be such an important tool when printing for ensuring accurate colour matching.

As they are located on a main road through the town, a lot of people walk and drive by the windows. As a result of this window graphics being spattered with rain and dirt, particularly in winter where it may snow. As it melts and mixes with dirt, this snowy sludge can easily start to gather on window graphics which can spoil the impact of them.

The Solution

They decided to use Contra Vision® Campaign White on Black in 30% transparency. This perforated window film was chosen as it gives a great balance of punchy image impact on the graphic side and a good level of see-through vision. The film also allows a good amount of natural light into a building.

They also chose to use Contra Vision® Overlaminate film for this installation for added durability and to enhance the overall finish. Johnsons were concerned about the graphics becoming dirty due to their location and the effects of bad weather. Using Contra Vision’s overlaminate means they can easily clean the window graphics without impacting the durability of them.

It also negates one of the issues that can occur when using perforated window film which is hole blocking due to dirt and water collecting in the perforations. By applying a laminate film to window perf, the perforations are protected from filling with dirt and ruining the see-through vision effect.

The Background

All the work for this project was done by Johnson’s Printers, with the material and some handy advice provided by Contra Vision. The graphics were conceptualized and designed in-house by the talented team at Johnsons. They feature iconic landmarks of Nantwich, including the church, the book shop, Nantwich Museum, and local pubs, providing a sense of familiarity and community spirit.

They were also printed and then given time to outgas before being laminated at Johnson’s other location in Crewe on the week prior to installation. During the installation, the graphics immediately grabbed the attention of the residents, with passersby stopping to admire the festive artwork before it was even complete.

Thanks to the high-quality formulation of Contra Vision perforated window film, and when used in combination with our Overlaminate, the installation was trouble-free despite the low temperatures that day. Once it comes time for the graphics to be removed when the festive season is over, they can be removed quickly and cleanly thanks to top-tier face films that offer minimal tearing, and no adhesive residue left behind.
