FAQ's

Below are answers to some of the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) concerning our products.

If you do not find the answer to your question, please call us on +44 (0)161 439 9307 or e-mail us at sales@contravision.com.

Q: How are the Contra Vision® products constructed?

A: Contra Vision® Perforated Base Material (PBM) is made of self-adhesive vinyl (PVC) substrate which is perforated to achieve one-way visibility. Contra Vision® non-perforated products include Contra Vision® XR™, Contra Vision® ORS™ and Contra Vision® BACKLITE™. Contra Vision® Stripes™, is made of cut self-adhesive vinyl stripes.

Q: What percentage is "solid" and what percentage transparent?

A: The "silhouette pattern" of one-way vision Contra Vision® products or the "base pattern" of Contra Vision® BACKLITE™ products varies from 50% - 80% (50% to 20% transparent).

Q: Is any special lighting required?

A: For a one-way effect, lighting on the graphics side must be brighter than on the non-image side. For windows and entrance doors in daylight, no artificial lighting is required. During the hours of darkness, Contra Vision® products need to be illuminated on the design side to be clearly visible. Contra Vision® BACKLITE™ products can be illuminated from either side.

Q: What are some of the benefits of using Contra Vision® one-way vision, see-through graphic products?

A: Contra Vision® creates new, innovative advertising, sign and decor opportunities without obstructing the view.

The see-through feature allows premium placement of advertisements and signs on glass doors at eye level - on buses to create moving billboards and on building windows for high-impact advertising or decor.

The Contra Vision® product also has important applications in the security field, thanks to its one-way capability. It can be used for covert surveillance on vehicle windows, at department stores, banks and airports as well as camera "hides".

Moreover, the Contra Vision® product significantly reduces heat and glare from the sun, making it ideal for buildings and vehicles.

Q: Who has used the Contra Vision® product and for what applications?

A: Audi, British Telecom, British Airways, Caterpillar, Coca-Cola, Guinness, Honda, JC Decaux, Komatsu, Levi Strauss, Mars, McDonalds, Nestle, Nike, Pepsi, Saab, Viacom, Visa and Volvo are among a host of companies, both large and small, that have used the Contra Vision® product to showcase their products and services and improve their environment.

Colourful applications include window graphics for buses, payphone kiosks, bus shelters, shops, POP displays and building wraps.

Q: What methods are used to print on the film?

A: The Contra Vision® products are digitally, screen, litho or flexo printed. Please refer to the Contra Vision® Products page.

Q: What is the difference between external application and internal application?

A: External application is to be applied to the outside of the glass. The image is printed onto the white and black layers.

Internal application is to be applied to the interior surface of the glass. The image must be printed first.

Q: How do you know which Contra Vision® product to use?

A: It depends on the application of the graphic and conditions under which it will be displayed.

Contra Vision® Perforated Base Material (PBM) is a popular choice for bus and building wrap applications. Non-perforated Contra Vision® XR™ is ideal for a wide range of high quality window graphic applications, including corporate branding. Non-perforated Contra Vision® ORS™ and Contra Vision® BACKLITE CR™ are perfect for POP displays, Entrance Doors and other retail applications, as well as space advertising on payphone kiosks and bus shelters.

Our range of non-perforated products is highly recommended to overcome problems of vandalism and weather conditions.

Q: Is the Contra Vision® product easy to install?

A: Using a few simple tools, e.g. a squeegee, and following some basic rules, the Contra Vision® product is easy to apply and remove. It does not leave any adhesive residue and allows window media to be changed as often as is desired. However, we do recommend using a trained installer.

Q: Where can I purchase Contra Vision® products?

A: You can purchase our Perforated Base Material (PBM) on the open market from one of our Licensed Manufacturers and Distributors and some of our non-perforated products directly from our Printer and Distributor Licensees (click on these links to access the contact lists).
